The old state Examinations(Kwa-goe) in the Yi Dynasty was very complicated in it’s scale and procedure, even though Yi Dynasty completed the system, adding many defects. Kwa-goe system was opened widely to the Yan Ban, but was not opened to the non- Yang Bans. in the old state Examinations(Kwa-goe), there were Literature (문과), Military(무과), Generals(잡과), and exams for the monks(승과), The Middle Class(중인), applied for the Generals(잡과), because they became engineers. The Yang Bans(High Class) applied for Literature, Military and the primary exams(생진). As the thought of likeness of Literature and dislikeness of Military, the non- Yang Bans Class could pass the exam of the Military Exam with good grade. In the procceedur of the exam, there were three kinds of patterns; the Primary exam(초시), the Re- exam(복시), and Joen-Si. In the Generals, there were two patterns; the Primary(초시) and the Re-exam. Expecially, the Literature exam that only the Yang Bans could applied have two parts; So-Kwa and Dae-Kwa. So-Kwa two kinds of patterns; the Primary exam(초시) and the Re-exam(복시), Dae-Kwa have three kinds of patterns; the Primary(초시), the Re-exam(복시), and Joen Si. So the Literature exams have five kinds of patterns in all During Yi-Dynasty, the Literature exam had been regarded more important than the Mi tary exam and became major exam of the old state Examinations. Kwa-goe was the way to become officials and got on in life. In order to pass the Kwa- goe exams, they had to master the designated subjects. So the education of those periods were to teach them those subjects. The educational systems of those periods were the only system for the Kwa-goe exam and raising officials. Various kinds of old state exams produced too many officials of the Kwa-goe exams. Excesive competition for the Kwa-goe exams and so many officials arosed various socials problems, but old state Examinations had influence on the education, social, and cultures.
